For all their flaws, San Francisco’s transit options are better than most people are willing to admit.
BART is (mostly) reliable. The Muni could be worse. Ridesharing apps are cropping up faster than cocktail bars on Market Street (well, they’re neck and neck, anyway).
Still, nothing really beats seeing the city over a set of handlebars.
Which is why this weekend you’ll tear it up on your trusty 10-speed (or whatever) for DasBike’s Das Hunt: SF Bike Scavenger Hunt. The city-wide race takes you to dozens of hidden gems and secret, bike-friendly locales around the city, and no neighborhood will be spared.
Saturday’s event starts at Cupid’s Span (F.K.A. “That weird bow-and-arrow sculpture in Rincon Park”) at 10a, so you’ll want to cut your buddies off on the early side Friday night. Once you’re on the hunt, your team will snap photos at as many checkpoints as you can, hustling up hills, through alleyways, and in and out of previously-unheard-of areas.
Then you’ll head to the Marina Sports Basement to relax over cold beers and check out the other teams’ photos until winners are announced — the highest-scoring teams net mad swag and prizes.
After seven hours, though, not having to climb any more hills can be its own reward.
