What do the bands Third Eye Blind, Death Cab for Cutie, and Chicago have in common?
They have all employed the power of magic.
Specifically, the orchestral kind of Magik*Magik, San Francisco's preeminent hired-gun classical music strike force.
While this "made-to-order" orchestra is on speed dial for some of the biggest musicians and creatives in the world, they're not too big to recognize that a passion for classical music must start young (just like our passion for Third Eye Blind).
And this year, at tonight's Noise Pop's 5th anniversary of the Magik*Magik Orchestra
, they're doing something about it.
The gala concert for Magik for Kids will do much more than bring innovative music programs to children throughout SF. Expect guest performances from top indie rock bands led by The Dodos, Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers
, Two Gallants, and Zoe Keating.
The theme of the night is “When We Were Young," with songs near and dear to their hearts from their childhood. Fittingly, it's all to benefit the kids, who, armed with these programs, can learn how to compose their own string quartet or build their own made-to-order ensembles.
Which sounds kinda magical, in and of itself.
