3. Bar Tartine’s sandwich shop
Talented chefs Nick Balla and Chad Robertson are masters at layering flavors and textures with their “seasonless” menu. Tartine devotees can order sandwiches at the counter to go or eat in. Crowd pleasers include the wildly popular smørrebrød: an open-faced rye bread sandwich accompanied with chicken liver pate or corned beef and fried onion. The famous, freshly baked bread is made from heirloom grains in their custom-built oven.
