Oh, Romeo

Our guide to SF's top 5 first dates

Full_firstdates

You know the first-date formula. Combine a neighborhood restaurant with a dependable bar and you've got the potential for a decent-enough time.

She'll tell her friends you were nice, you'll tell your friends it went well (fist bump), and you'll have given neither of you a chance at what you really wanted:

A story.

5. Audium
The scenario: You ran into her at three consecutive Outside Lands night shows before finally getting up the nerve to ask her out.
The solution: Thrill your fellow music nerd with the world's wildest theater — where music is "sculpted" around you through 169 all-encompassing speakers manipulated by movement, direction, speed, and intensity. A definite conversation starter.
Fri & Sat 8:30p. 1616 Bush St., Lower Pac Heights. $20.

4. Angel Island State Park
The scenario: You traded numbers at the gym and you don't know if this chick owns anything not manufactured by Lululemon.
The solution: Take it outside with a ferry boat ride to Angel Island, where you can hike the peak for panoramic views and bike miles of scenic trails. Finish off your day with a Cowgirl Creamery cheese board and a glass of bubbly at the outdoor cafe — all just a brisk ferry ride away and totally Lulu-appropriate.
Angel Island State Park, Tiburon.

3. Urban Wine Tasting at Tank18
The scenario: You met at your favorite wine bar, where she impressed you with her highbrow tasting notes and even higher tolerance.
The solution: Sip your way through wine country without ever leaving the city. Locally sourced and then barreled in SoMa, Tank18 serves up flights and pairings in a low-key, spacious atmosphere. Stop by every third Saturday with an empty wine bottle and fill 'er up for just $7.99.
Thu-Sun 3-10p. Tank18,1345 Howard St., SoMa.

2. Opaque
The scenario: She's your co-worker, and even though she made the first move, looking her in the eye while you flirt still feels like breaking the rules.
The solution: Continue your clandestine ways with a three-course meal in absolute darkness with guidance from the legally blind waitstaff. She's gonna be impressed when you bravely suggest the "mystery course" to truly put your taste buds to the test.
Wed-Sat 6p-midnight. 689 McAllister St., Western Addition. $99 prix fixe menu.

1. Prix Fixe Dining at Off The Grid Fort Mason
The scenario: You met her in a bar and, boy, it was dark in there. Also, you may or may not have done four shots of Jack immediately prior to your conversation.
The solution: Skip the lines and cap your cost with OTG's Prix Fixe dining option. $50 buys you five courses of table service from Azalina's, Hapa SF, and Stag Dining. And, yes, there's booze. And heat lamps.
Fri 5-10p. Off the Grid: Fort Mason, Fort Mason Center Parking Lot, Buchanan St. & Marina Blvd., The Marina. $40-50.
