The idea of another bloody eyeball martini has us gagging, too.
Which is why we turned to Michael Mina's award-winning bar manager Carlo Splendorini to craft an exclusive Rundown Halloween cocktail.
Make it at home, or enjoy it at the bar. Either way, here's how it's done.
The Pumpkin Patch
2 oz. Cognac
3/4 oz. pumpkin syrup
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1/2 egg white
1/2 Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur
Shake all ingredients vigorously over ice, serve up, garnished with old fashioned bitters and cloves.
If you can’t find pumpkin syrup, create it using the simple recipe below. (Mix amount to taste, depending on how sweet and pumpkin-flavored you want it.)
Spiced pumpkin syrup recipe
2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Over low heat, bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally to keep the sugar from burning. Simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved and the pumpkin is fully mixed into the syrup. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to an airtight container. Refrigerate and use by Thanksgiving.
