You already know to drink your liquor before your beer. Even better?
Enjoying them at the same time.
Here are four beer-based cocktails that are not only delicious, but safely drinkable in large quantities.
La Student at Jasper's Corner Tap
By now you're familiar with the Witch's Brew and Weissen Sour. And now there's a new option from the bar that helped put beer cocktails on SF's seven square mile map: La Student. Walk the tightrope between light, herbal, and smoky as you sip this complex mixture of Beefeater 24 Gin, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, coriander syrup, citrus, bitters, and Blanche de Bruxelles.
401 Taylor St., Tenderloin/Downtown (415-775-7979)
El Hefe at The Burritt Room
Usually, the only thing you're adding to a Hefeweisen is a lemon wedge. Push your boundaries with an El Hefe, which balances the bright flavors of orange curacao and agave nectar with the slightly smokey Del Maguey Vida Mezcal before topping with Hefeweisen for a bit of sparkle. Too bad your boss isn't this awesome.
417 Stockton St., Union Square (415-400-0561)
The Buena Vista at Park Tavern
Refresh yourself after a sunbathing sesh in Washington Square with the newest in the North Beach resto's series of park-based cocktails. Your sip comes splashed in the summery flavors of apricot and rosemary bitters warmed with St. Germain Rye Gin, Laird's applejack, and crisp Allagash White Beer.
1652 Stockton St., North Beach (415-989-7300)
The Vice Grip at The Alembic
At first, a mix of coffee, beer, and wine in one glass might sound overwhelming it. But you'll feel differently after just one sip. Coffee-flavored rum liqueur combines with Brachetto d'Acqui red wine for a port wine flavor, while the foam topper (made with Marin Brewing Co.'s Point Reyes Porter) rounds it out with a nutty warmth. Remember your genius concoctions at the cafeteria soda machine? This is the grown-up version -- except actually tasty.
