Holy Smokes

The Old Sage is your new mecca for meat and single malts

They say smoking can be hazardous to your health, but at a hot new Cap Hill spot, it'll soothe your soul.

At The Old Sage, the latest venture from Spur and Tavern Law's Dana Tough and Brian McCracken, smoking is required.

Every meat on the menu is smoked in a different way, from a torchon of foie gras smoked with pine needles and served with donut peaches and pistachio, to a cut of sockeye salmon smoked with corn husks.

But it doesn't stop there — these guys are heavy hitters in the carb department, too. They're serving up butter flake bread described as "the Pillsbury Doughboy on crack" and puffed sour bread, a huge balloon of sourdough with wild fennel pollen.

The cocktails are equally distinctive. A dozen taps of deep, sour and (yes) smoky beers pair perfectly with the menu, and an entire wall of single malt scotches will keep you in good spirits.

The portions are totally shareable, so bring a posse and smoke yourself silly.

The Surgeon General won't mind. We promise.
