This Weekend

  • Space Clothes: Future Beauty

SAM's new show examines Japanese fashion, which is unsurprisingly a lot like you see in anime.

Fine and raw: Some of the materials used in these clothes are super-bizarre — wood and foam push haute couture to the limit.

Tonight thru Sep 8. Seattle Art Museum, 1300 1st Ave., Downtown (206-654-3210). $17 here.

    Nearby: Frolik; Radiator Whiskey; Shorty's

  • Punk Roots: A Band Called Death

This invigorating documentary about a forgotten African-American punk band has been blowing minds across the country.

Encore: The flick was one of the most talked-about movies at SIFF, so it's back for a longer run.

Fri-Sun 9:15p. SIFF Film Center, 511 Queen Anne Ave. N., Queen Anne (206-464-5830). $11 here.

Nearby: Toulouse Petit; Sully's; Mecca Café

  • Sweet Rides: Greenwood Car Show

When the sun comes out, Seattle car freaks bring out their sweet rides.

Start your engines: Stop for pancake breakfast at the Greenwood Senior Center before the show — proceeds go to charity.

Sat 8a-4p. Greenwood Avenue and 67th St., Greenwood. Free.

Nearby: Ludlow; Uber Tavern; The Dray

  • Feel The Beat: Darude

The Finnish trance producer has been making floor-shaking anthems for 15 years, so this rare Seattle visit should be a blast.

Desert heat: His iconic 1999 hit "Sandstorm" will get stuck in your head all day. Try it for yourself.

Sat 9p. Foundation, 2218 Western Ave., Belltown (206-535-7285) $10 here.

    Nearby: List; Lola; Black Bottle
