Healthy Harvest

The best restaurant in the state is making the best meal of the year

Quick: What president is on the $500 bill? No peeking.

It's William McKinley. If you haven't handled many McKinleys, all you need to know is this: just one will get you admission to the First Harvest Dinner.

Hosted at the Willows Inn on Lummi Island (you know, the best restaurant in the state), this annual dinner organized by chef Blaine Wetzel brings cooks from all over the world and lets them go wild.

And we mean that literally — meals will be made from foraged food, fresh-caught salmon, prawns, and halibut, and the tastiest hyperlocal ingredients anywhere.

Chefs flying in for the event include Grant Achatz from Chicago's legendary Alinea, Virgilo Martinez from Lima's Central Restaurante, and two-time James Beard award winner Christopher Kostow of The Restaurant at Meadowood.

We're talking high-octane power in the kitchen here, all in friendly competition to see who can please your palate the best.

Crack into the piggy bank. Do some odd jobs on Craigslist. If you miss this one, your mouth will hate you forever.
