Your Dad is the guy who taught you the essential arts of manliness: shaving, drinking, and mowing the lawn. So take him out this Sunday and give him a little something back.
Car Show and Chili Cook-Off
If your pops digs classic automobiles, the annual Burien Father's Day car show is sure to make him wax nostalgic. Hundreds of sweet rides from all over the Pacific Northwest are there for the ogling, and there's also a chili cook-off to satiate even the biggest hunger.
10a-6p. Town Square Park, 480 Southwest 152nd St., Burien (206-433-2882). Free.
If Dads love one thing, it's big slabs of meat. Ethan Stowell's Tavolata is hosting one of their famous charity cook-offs, and the subject is barbecue. Manny Arce of Poquitos, Jim Romdall of Vessel and Stowell himself are among the chefs stepping up to the plate this time around.
6p. Tavolata, 2323 2nd Ave., Belltown (206-838-8008). $50, call for reservations.
Washington Brewer's Festival
There's nothing that cements the bond between father and son quite like a frosty mug of beer. Except for a dozen of them. Take Dad to the Washington Brewer's Festival and enjoy more than 250 different beers from all over the state. The festival runs on Friday and Saturday, too, in case you need to pre-game.
11a-6p. Marymoor Park, 6046 West Lake Sammamish Pkwy NE, Redmond (206-941-7271). $15 here.
Father's Day Fishing
Washington State hatcheries are releasing a staggering 10,000 extra-big rainbow trout into local lakes for Father's Day weekend, so there's no better time to grab your reels and enjoy some quality time hooking tonight's dinner. There's still plenty of time to snag your fishing license for the summer if you haven't already.
Various locations. We recommend:
Green Lake 7201 East Green Lake Dr. N, Green Lake (206-684-0780) - most convenient to Seattle
Gissburg Ponds 16324 Twin Lake, Marysville - nice views, about an hour north of the city
American Lake 9222 Veterans Dr SW, Lakewood - south of Tacoma, it's a bit of a drive but expansive and well-stocked.
