Pryde, No Prejudice

Kitty Pryde has flow that belies her innocent looks

One of the least-likely hip-hop success stories of this year, Kitty Pryde is a red-headed teenage girl who raps hazed-out verses over laptop beats. And she might just change the game as we know it.

She rolls into the Crocodile for an all-ages show on Thursday, her first time in Seattle.

2012 saw the release of "OK Cupid," an irresistable viral hit that got her noticed by Houston rap steamroller Riff Raff. The pair then collaborated on "Orion's Belt" which established Kitty as a force to be reckoned with.

Unlike other rappers, Kitty doesn't try to be street. She rhymes about Justin Bieber, taking Benadryl and before she broke big she worked at Claire's Accessories. And, of course, she releases her albums in the hippest way possible: on Tumblr. For free.

We just saw Macklemore, another unconventional rapper, make it to #1 with "Thrift Shop."

If Kitty Pryde does the same thing, you'll be able to say you saw her first.

Well, besides the Ellen Page version.
