We all know how great Chelan is during the summer. But the third-deepest lake in America gets even better when the snow falls.
Every January, Winterfest turns the town upside down into a frozen paradise, with stunning ice sculptures, beach bonfires, and fireworks over the lake.
Chelan is also one of Washington’s leading wine producing regions, and the ridiculously popular wine walk lets you sample 15 wineries from the area as part of a self-guided tour through the town. 2013 also sees the introduction of a local ale tasting featuring a dozen microbreweries.
If you’re feeling sporty, Winterfest offers skiing, sledding, and snow yoga. Yes, that’s a thing - they even call it "snowga."
At the end of it all, grit your teeth and jump into the frozen lake for the Polar Bear Plunge. There’s no better way to embrace the essential essence of winter in Washington.
Especially if you have someone waiting to warm you up afterwards. Or at least, a few of those wine samples.
