Spice and Vice

Bodega Negra offers sexy Mexican at the Dream Downtown

Full_bodeg2

Tonight, your tacos come with a side of S&M.

Don't worry, though, you probably won't leave Bodega Negra bruised. Probably.

The new joint at the Dream Downtown Hotel — in the space formerly occupied by Marble Lane — doesn't come by way of our southern neighbors, but from across the Atlantic. The original London location is hidden behind a back door in a seedy sex shop.

It's a little more classed up on this side of the world, but with a wink. There are sombreros and disco balls dangling from the ceiling, a piano mounted behind the bar, and wooden stocks and leather belts hung all-too-suggestively above the booths.

You almost forgot you're here to eat — and eat you shall. There will be tacos stuffed with Peking duck and lamb and soft shell crab. There will be four-cheese quesadillas with habanero and roasted tomatoes. There will be yellowtail ceviche and broiled lobster. And, in the coming months, you'll be able to add a whole suckling pig feast to that order, too.

Obviously, you'll have a chamomile- or grapefruit-laced margarita with that, followed up by some straight Del Maguey mezcal. You'll need to brace yourself for the after-dinner, uh, activities.

Just don't attempt to take the stocks with you when you leave.
