The Top-Top Shelf

The top 5 ridiculously expensive drinks in NYC

There are people out there who say the best things in life are free. And those people make terrible dates.

That 10 you picked up in the Hamptons last weekend isn't settling for street tacos and a bunch of wine coolers. She wants cocktails. Pricey ones. And she wants them now. Here are the five most ridiculously expensive cocktails in New York.

5. Mikan Agave at Bar Masa
What's In It: Don Julio 1942 Tequila, sudachi, and fresh Japanese tangerine juice
What It Costs: $28
Where To Get It: Bar Masa, 10 Columbus Circle (W. 60th St.), Upper West Side
Why This One: Because $28 is an absolutely ludicrous price for what amounts to a fancy Tequila Sunrise, but you can't argue with Chef Takayama's taste. Or anything else, for that matter.

4. The World Bar Signature Cocktail
What's In It: Veuve Clicquot Champagne, Remy XO, Pineau des Charentes, liquid gold (yes, actual liquid gold)
What It Costs: $50
Where To Get It: The World Bar, 845 United Nations Plaza (1st Ave. at 48th St.), Midtown East
Why This One: The World Bar's interior is both intimate and swanky. It's also located just a few hundred yards from the U.N., which gives you a perfect excuse to discuss weighty topics like the Arab Spring and the possibility of brokering peace between your sheets.

3. The 63rd Street Martini
What's In It: Chateau Fontpinot, Belle de Brillet, Real Companhia, pear nectar
What It Costs: $63
Where To Get It: Club Macanudo, 26 E. 63rd St. (Madison Ave.), Upper East Side
Why This One: Goes great with a cigar, and Club Macanudo is — you guessed it — a cigar bar!

2. La Bebida de Sus Sueños
What's In It: Herradura Seleccíon Suprema Añejo, Grand Marnier Cuvée du Cent Cinquantenaire, fresh-squeezed citrus juices and Del Maguey 100% Tobala
What It Costs: $69
Where To Get It: Sueños, 311 W. 17th St. (8th Ave.), Chelsea
Why This One: It's called "the drink of your dreams" for a reason. Plus, if you nail the French and Spanish pronunciations required to read the ingredients aloud, you get extra points. Wait till she's ordered her third before making a 69 joke.

1. Martini on the Rock at Blue Bar
What's In It: A regular ol' martini. Oh, and a 1.5-carat diamond inside it.
What It Costs: $10,000
Where To Get It: Blue Bar at The Algonquin, 59 W. 44th St. (6th Ave.), Midtown
Why This One: It'll make one hell of a proposal, or a very expensive "I'm sorry about saying someone else's name in bed" gift.
