The Coen Brothers must be perplexed.
Out of all their fine films, none has engendered such a fiercely loyal following as The Big Lebowski, celebrated once again at this year's Lebowski Fest.
Seriously, could you imagine a Blood Simple version of metal cover band Los Duderinos, or a costumed party themed around Barton Fink?
It just wouldn't work.
But tonight's Lebowski Movie Party sure as hell does, with said Duderinos and Chipocrite playing the movie's soundtrack before what's sure to be a raucous screening of the film at Gramercy Theater.
Ditto tomorrow's Bowling Party, with Maudes and Donnys and Walter Sobchaks filling Bowlmor Lanes for trivia, drunkenness, and some very vigorous ball polishing.
Oh, and be sure to call out anyone going over the line.
You just couldn't do that with Fargo's wood chipper.
