South Beach isn't necessarily known for being laid-back.
But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be at least one chill, carefully-brewed coffee house — especially when it's calling out your inner artist.
After hitting downtown, Urban Oxy has now made its second coffee roasting home on Washington Ave., serving up premium Panther Coffee, homemade pizzas, and sweets from Miami's own Sweetness Bakeshop.
While French press, Chemex, and simple drip coffees are their specialty, we recommend diving into a slice of market pizza made with fresh mozzarella or Tillamook cheddar beer soup, since everything is made fresh from scratch.
Wood planks and colorful graffiti (by local street artist Atomik) adorn the place, but don't worry, they left room for your doodles, too. Order up a cafe affogato — that's a scoop of vanilla gelato drowned by a shot of espresso. Then take a seat in one of the simple white chairs by the wooden bar and give that iPhone a rest.
Feel free to make your own artwork on the chalkboard-decked walls alongside the rest of the customer sketches.
Just don't make it a habit at other coffee shops. That behavior won't fly at Starbucks.
