Your mission for National Burger Month was simple: taste the best patties this city has to offer.
There's still one week left, time for one more mission: taste the best another city has to offer.
California-based Umami Burger has picked Miami for its first East Coast outpost. And we're very, very lucky to have access to the burger that persuaded GQ to crown it "Burger of the Year" in 2010.
Setting up shop at the old 8-oz. Burger Bar on Alton, this place not only introduces a new generation of burger, but new words to our vocabulary.
Umami is one of the five basic tastes: not salty or sweet, but devoted to savory. The namesake signature burger honors it with housemade everything, from ground patties to toasted crispy buns. Then adds truffle cheese (also housemade, of course).
Slide into one of the high-top tables facing the windows for ideal flatscreen viewing. While the beer cheddar burger sounds ridiculously good, there’s no going home without trying the Cubano burger: pork belly, prosciutto, and smoked ham, oozing with house-made cheese and mojo mustard sauce.
Pair up your burger creation with a side of truffle fries served alongside a trio of dipping sauces for the closest we've seen to burger perfection.
Unbutton those pants. It's go time.
