In the South, fried chicken and grits go a long way. Especially here in South Beach, where too often flash trumps food.
Not so at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar.
With its white brick walls and hanging mason jar chandeliers, this newcomer brings a little bit of southern hospitality alongside good ol' fashioned home cookin'.
At the bar (where the tap is made with old school cooking utensils), ask the bartender for a bourbon-based specialty cocktail. This place is serious about its moonshine, with hard-to-find labels including Pappy Van Winkle and Black Maple Hill infused with smoked pear and almond for easy sipping.
The menu's just as serious about its comfort food, from mama’s chicken biscuits with pepper jelly to hefty Berkshire pork chops made with smoky plantain puree and fresh baked apple.
A side of cheesy corn grits is another welcome sight.
Just watch for corn in your teeth if you're gonna whistle Dixie all the way home.
