1. Go to Botswana with the LA Zoo
Booking some sort of summer vacation is a no-brainer every year. But instead of the usual destinations (look the other way, Hawaii and Cabo), join the LA's Zoo's traveling expedition to Botswana. (Also called the "South Beach of Africa." By us.)
You'll get up close and personal with giraffes, hippos, and hyenas as part of this 10-day wildlife safari led by zoo director, John Lewis. There might not be any half-naked co-eds stumbling these campgrounds, but we hear the elephants bathe naked in every watering hole.
May 28-Jun 8. 5333 Zoo Dr., Glendale (323-644-4792). $8,000.
