Get Em While They're Hot

Three pop-ups freshen up your usual dinner routine

Breaking Bad. The ozone layer. Ohio State's season.

The best things in life don't last forever.

Before it’s too late, treat yourself to a little temporary culinary pleasure. These three limited-time luxe dinners will be gone faster than you can say “pass the stuffed cuttlefish with scallop mousse.”

1. East Borough Preview
In anticipation of the Culver City opening of East Borough, the chefs behind the OC-based French-Vietnamese spot are offering a one-night-only five course tasting menu tonight at Superba Snack Bar.

Which basically means you should plan on eating a very light lunch. In just a few more hours, you could be gorging yourself on phocatini with oxtail and hoisin; shrimp with crab butter and ginger rice; and fried cauliflower in fish sauce.
Tonight 6-10:30p. Superba Snack Bar, 533 Rose Ave., Venice (310-399-6400). $65, call for reservations.

2. Crossroads Sunday Suppers
The new Sunday Supper series at WeHo’s favorite plant-based eatery features a rotating roster of celebrity guest chefs.

This week, it’s Top Chef Masters alum Art Smith, who’s transforming his usually meaty Southern cuisine into a finger-licking vegetarian feast. The sweet potato biscuits and wild mushroom grits might even have you considering going vegan full-time. If Jay-Z can do it, so can you.
Every Sun 5-10p. 8284 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood (323-782-9245). $80, call for reservations.

3. Bull & Dragon
In the face of December’s cold(ish) temps, Chef Aaron Ziegler’s nine-course menu is heating things up.

This month, his modernist California pop-up takes over Venice's Flake. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays through next week, you’ll get everything from smoked oyster seafood salad to rabbit mole and spiny lobster bisque.

Oh, and that stuffed cuttlefish we mentioned earlier. Consider it an early Christmas present to yourself.
Thu-Sat thru Dec 21. Flake, 513 Rose Ave., Venice (612-250-2661). Reservations here
