A Technical Feet

3-D scanning technology meets luxury footwear construction

We do not condone Instagramming your feet, at the beach or otherwise.

But 3D capturing them? That's too cool to pass up.

'Cause there are these Finnish high-end footwear makers on Melrose who want your digits, all ten of the bottom ones. They're The Left Shoe Company, and they just opened their first US flagship down on Melrose.

And yes, they brought along a state-of-the-art 3-D scanner that measures every nanometer of your foot. After the scanner works its magic, you peruse the collection of shoe styles and fine leathers — perhaps selecting proper English wingtip Oxfords in burgundy calf-leather. Or buckskin suede desert boots with Goodyear-welted rubber soles. Or square-toe crocodile leather Derbys. Or all three.
Then, it’s time for a Scotch, sir, as all the data is sent to Portugal, where master leather crafters and shoemakers create your custom shoes to your exact measurements.
Six weeks later, the shoebox arrives at your doorstep, and you stride into the office precisely shod in luxury and pride. Ah, the wonders of modernity.
Bonus: your foot facts get stored online, so when it’s time to order a pair a set of golf shoes or a set of blue suede loafers for that yacht trip, bespoke footwear is a few clicks away.
Jolly fine advances, we do say.
