Australia's having a good week.
Yesterday, they took over the golf world in Augusta, Georgia.
And starting this Saturday in LA, Aussies can say G’day to their national dish: meat pies.
That’s when Bronzed Aussie swings open its doors in downtown’s Santee Court Marketplace. Its industrial look hinting at the Outback, assuming aboriginals would be okay with interactive magnetic wall murals of Sydney Harbor.
The name honors the continent’s first lifeguards, and the savory pies here are just as tanned, and arguably as valiant. The Original has lean ground beef cooked in a rich gravy with tomatoes and spices. There’s a lamb, potato, rosemary, and garlic pie, and even tofu curry for the (completely missing out) vegetarians.
And no, you won't need a Crocodile Dundee-like knife for these badboys. They're flaky enough for just your fork.
Known to put hair on Aussie chests, there’s Vegemite toast on the side (toasted bread smothered in a spread that tastes like beef stock) and mashed potatoes with gravy and peas.
For dessert, you’ll want to try a Lamingtons. Also from the land of Oz, this life-affirming square of sponge cake is dipped in chocolate and rolled in coconut.
Yeah… This place must’ve been an even trade for giving them Baywatch and Twinkies.
