In the biblically distant past, barbers doubled as doctors.
Today, they triple and quadruple as clowns and magicians.
Case in point: Barber Society, a new, two-chair homage to old-school barbershops, set inside Salon Republic in the 8000 Sunset shopping center.
Here, long-time barbers Loui and Richie, a 3rd-generation barber, offer straight-razor and three-towel shaves, cuts, fades, tight tapers, mohawks, fauxhawks, and beardscaping that give Floyd’s and Rudy’s a run for their razors.
And they do it with utmost hospitality, swathing you in a cape and offering you kettle corn or cotton candy. Or, back to those medical credentials, they’ll happily dull your ills with a shot of homemade, rosemary-infused Jack Daniels.
While you’re being pampered and preened with hot towels and LA-based Steadfast products, Richie will keep you entertained with card and magic tricks, juggling, or a random burst of confetti. One of the original Beacher’s Madhouse talents, this dude comes to work every day in permanent clown makeup, bowler hat, and water-squirting pocket flowers.
Water-squirting flowers are totally the new pocket square.
