Mali(No)bu

A new pearl on the Pacific

Full_nobumalibu

He’s in Austin Powers movies. He’s partners with Robert DeNiro. He’s a guest of Jay Leno.

We’re referring to Nobu, and to say that his new Malibu address isn’t game-changing is like saying that the weather’s been chilly lately.

Come to this beachside fish temple when you have a big occasion to celebrate (e.g. popping the question, selling your pilot, it’s Friday and you’re Robert Downey Jr.).

A typically sleek space with clean lines and light woods, this nautical Nobu sports an expansive outdoor patio and lounge, a fireplace, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a 14-seat bar. And every seat comes with a breathtaking view of the ocean.

Which is precisely where your food comes from. Classic Nobu dishes including the oft-imitated yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño and black cod with miso carry over, while new signatures pop up such as Kobe beef with crispy shiitake mushrooms.

Your future bride (or Friday flavor) will swoon over the smattering of martinis on the cocktail menu. Pony up to the $20 Eva Sakura, made with Nobu special reserve sake 28, Vermouth Yamazaki 12 year single malt, yamamomo juice and cherries.

The best part? It’s shaken tableside.

Note: If you are Robert Downey Jr., watch out for paparazzi on the way out.
