Tav It Your Way

Hollywood revives the bar-and-grill's career

If you're keeping score at home, the vocabulary of venue types is getting a wee bit unwieldy. Witness: restobars, gastropubs, social houses, scotch parlors, polo lounges, burger lounges, beer halls, beer gardens,  liquor rooms, Champagne rooms...

Simplifying things, enter Tavern on Hollywood.

Let's run the numbers. In the former home of Osaka, you'll now find one smoking patio, three bars, 42 tap beers, and 17 flat-screen TVs.

Similar to its original concept, Glendale’s Tavern on Brand, the usual suspects of culinary Americana are all here: chicken wings (spicy or the portentous "WTF"), mozzarella sticks and fried calamari tricked out with housemade sauces like habañero aioli. Plus a Tavern Burger with your choice of patty (beef, chicken, veggie or portabello) that would satisfy everyone from cavemen to connoisseur to health-conscious.

Though we're looking most forward to the bacon-wrapped foot-long hot dog and the deep fried Twinkie, served with chocolate dipping sauce.

With options like these, who needs a Champagne room?
