10...9...8...

The countdown to a New Year's done right starts now

With near-constant sunshine and the Lakers' glorious Christmas Day return, it looks like 2011 won't go down without a fight.

December 31 promises to be no exception. Whether it's a bar crawl in Hollywood, a poker game with Jay and Silent Bob, or an intimate dinner with a champagne toast, now you have the Rundown on the final countdown.

White Wonderland: NYE 2012 by GIANT
GIANT is the gold standard when it comes to NYE parties, and the roving über-club is going even bigger by teaming up with Insomniac Events this year at the Anaheim Convention Center, featuring Benny Benassi and Dada Life in a two-day celebration.
$80-$250. 6p-2a Sat, 7p-2a Sun. Anaheim Convention Center, 800 W. Katella Ave., Anaheim.

Snootchie Bootchies: Jay & Silent Bob's New Year's Eve Poker Classic
Ante up with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes for a chance to win some swag during this elimination tournament at the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club. Once you've folded, stick around for the New Year's Babble-Eve, where many of the celebrity players will perform standup.
$50. 6p. New Year's Babble-Eve: $85, includes glass of champagne. 10p. 1000 Universal Studios Blvd. #222, Universal City (818-824-6545)

Rush 'Em: Rush Street's New Year's Eve

Three little words always make New Year's partying a little better: no cover charge. Rush Street celebrates on both sides of the countdown, with NYE dinner and hangover brunch the next day (in case you wake up in the bushes outside). A Red Eye burger and bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas should help you wake up.
Dinner specials from 5:30-10p. (No reservations required if you eat downstairs.) Bottle service from 8p-2a. $400 for groups of 4-8; $150 per table for 2. (Reservations required). Jan. 1: Brunch from 10a-3:30p. Rush Street, 9546 Washington Blvd, Culver City (310-837-9546)

Red Carpet Ride: Hollywood VIP New Year's Eve 2012

If you can't decide whether to ring in the new year at Geisha House, the courtyard of Grauman's Egyptian, or the brand-new Rolling Stone place, you'll get an all-access pass so you can do all three. If old-style glamour isn't your thing, switch out the Egyptian for the Las Palmas Block Party, where the VIP badge gets you velvet-rope treatment at Premiere Supperclub, Angels & Kings, and Las Palmas. Either way, you get into the Playhouse after hours, so take your time on the Walk of Fame.
$125-195 per person. 7:30p-4a. Check in at Hollywood & Highlands at 4th fl. from 7:30p-12:30a.

Drinking Slowly: City Sip
For anyone who'd rather relax than revel on the year's final evening, Echo Park's intimate wine bar offers a NYE package with a bottle of bubbly paired with a plate of fancy cheeses, charcuterie, and panini — plus dessert.
$50. City Sip, 2150 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles (213-483-9463)
