LA's best fishing excursions



After surviving Carmageddon, the last thing you wanna do is jump back on LA's newly-minted roads.

Instead, escape to the open sea where you'll do more than lure in some sole. You could land a soul mate.

Long Beach Sportfishing
Tackle a bunk bed during an overnight fishing trip to San Clemente or Catalina Island, complete with hot meals, alcohol, and a full day of fishing. They'll do half-day and three-quarter day trips, too.

Marina del Rey Sportfishing
The calm bay makes this adventure a best bet for noobs and families but is also great bait for more advanced fishermen. Hit the ATM first — it's cash only.

Redondo Beach Sportfishing
These guys know where the fish are. Their frequently updated Facebook page shares impressive fish counts after each and every outing.
233 North Harbor Drive. (310-372-2111). Adults $40-60, children under 12 $35-45. One day fishing license and rod & reel rental included.

Newport Beach Davey’s Locker Sportfishing
Big game is on the menu here. Check out their blog to see the enormous barracuda that passengers on these boats are bringing in.

Malibu Pier Sportfishing
These “limited load” trips are less crowded and more personalized than most other fishing excursions, promising personalized “Malibu movie star” service.
Malibu Pier, 23000 Pacific Coast Highway. (949-673-1434). Adults $59, children under 16 $49. Rod & reel rental $17.  No charge to clean and fillet your catch.

Note: All locations require purchase of a one-day fishing license for $14 for fishermen 16 and over.
