A Broposal

Catch some waves (or just watch) at the DFW Surf Open

On your mark. Get set. Paddle!

Next weekend, the DFW Surf Open makes big waves on Lake Lewisville.

It all starts Saturday morning with the longest-running Stand Up Paddle (SUP) race in Texas. The 5K recreational paddle/race will be followed by the Elite 10K race (if you've got mad skills to show off).

The afternoon SUP Cross finds racers shooting out of the in-water gates, paddling around obstacles, then hitting land to race across the shoreline on foot.

But if you like to watch, Sunday's the day for spectator sports as the only big boat surf contest in the world commences. Professional wake surfers will show off their skills behind a wake as close to the real ocean as possible on a lake.

Oceans are overrated, anyway.
