Savor Gastropub takes the picnic blanket out of the equation


Pack a picnic and you might as well pack your chances.

Sure, it sounds good on paper but you'll just look silly lugging that cumbersome basket. And there's no way she likes your congealed queso as much as she says.

Fortunately, the picnic has gone upscale with the opening of Savor Gastropub at Klyde Warren Park, once the home to food-truck-only dining options.

Inside the large, glass-walled space, you'll get the views of the park and downtown on one side, Uptown on the other. Take your pick with 16 wines on tap. Perhaps a Saintsbury 2012 Pinot Noir or a dozen draft beers, in case a cold Goose Island Sofie sounds more your speed.

Of course, now that fall is upon us, it's a shame to stay inside when there's a 3,100 square-foot patio with two fire pits outside.

That's where you'll dine under the stars on lobster puffs, grilled bacon with shaved pear, watercress, and radicchio, and crispy pork milanese with wild arugula & caper salad.

You can have crackers, squeeze cheese, and summer sausage on your own time
