Dog Day Afternoons (and Evenings)

Mutts Canine Cantina, Uptown's playground for people and pooches

That growling sound you hear might not be your stomach.

It could be the bulldog sitting next to you. Or the Jack Russell one table over.

In fact, when Mutts Canine Cantina opens today, the good-time sounds of restaurant and bar conversations will mostly be coming from four-legged guests. But don't worry, their masters are welcome, too.

This multi-faceted eatery combines a 200-seat patio restaurant and bar with a two-acre dog park, including separate areas for large and small pups. Attendants are on staff to pick up after them, too, so no more plastic bag stoop of shame in front of potential dates.

One side of the Mutts menu features frankfurters and frozen custard for the furry set. The other side offers breakfast tacos,
Hypnotic Donuts, free-range burgers, hot dogs, and ice cream for the (slightly) less hairy among us.

Play time for the pooch means party time for you. Head over to the bar, where Lakewood Brewing Co. and Franconia
lead the list of local beers flow on tap (just $1 each today only), along with a short but select wine list and house-made margaritas.

No word yet whether the dog bowls have salted rims.
