Tacos & Avocados serves up plenty of Mexican flavor

Today's the day Tacos & Avocados opens in Roanoke.

And it's gonna be worth the drive.


Chef Jason Boso, the man behind the ingenious creations at Twisted Root Burger Company, is bringing his unique interpretations to the Mexican food genre.

Start with the holiest guacamoliest smashed avocado creations (personal size!) we've ever seen, with accents of fresh jalapeño, tomatillo, or pumpkin seeds. Or skip right to the good stuff and order your guacamole topped with chunks of crispy bacon.


Tacos get upscale treatment here, too, including rib-eye steak dressed in bacon-onion marmalade, blue cheese, and potato straws. Fish tacos change daily based on the freshest the fishmonger can reel in.

Whatever you choose, one of eight house-infused frozen margaritas will keep you cool, including ginger-peach and watermelon-mint.

For dessert, head up to the honor-system ice cream cart in the middle of the restaurant where $1 gets you a frozen paleta to cool off your palate.

You might want to grab an extra one for the long ride home.
