With 2,000 bands taking over Austin at next week’s annual SXSW Music Conference, we wouldn’t blame you for getting a little homesick.
But with local labels, booking agencies, and publications hosting all kids of crazy day parties, home isn’t as far away as you think.
Here’s your rundown of the top 5 day parties thrown by Chicago organizations.
5. Bloodshot Yard Dog Party at Yard Dog Gallery
Local label Bloodshot Records is celebrating its 20-year anniversary with Southern bluegrass rock enthusiasts Ha Ha Tonka and good-time Nashville singer/songwriter Bobby Bare Jr., topped off by a rowdy performance from local beer-guzzling country outlaws The Waco Brothers. Bonus: Free Lagunitas beer and meat pies.

4. Windish Agency & House of Vans Annual Day Party at Mohawk
Local booking agency Windish is teaming up with Vans sneakers to uncork a two stage, 13-act lineup headlined by cinematic synth pop masters Phantogram and downtempo Aussie EDM hero Chet Faker. 2. Pitchfork at SXSW
Chicago-based hipster bible Pitchfork is hosting not one, but four events around Austin featuring a who’s who of up-and-coming artists, including Canadian punk rockers F*cked Up, New Jersey indie darlings Real Estate, and Chicago juke/booty house producer DJ Rashad. Each day’s events lead up to the official Pitchfork showcase on Friday, which goes down in a church.

1. CoSigns III at Hype Hotel
Local music blog Consequence of Sound is not only giving Pitchfork a run for its money online, but also on the streets of Austin.
