Porky's Revenge

Baconfest tickets go on sale today, so make it happen

Forget the Oscars. The real action happens later.
Two tons of bacon later.
Welcome to Baconfest, where Chicago’s top chefs compete for the Golden Rasher Awards — an Oscar-style trophy featuring a golden pig. The April event sells out early every year.

So with tickets going on sale today, you’re going to need to plan your pork bacchanal well in advance. The menu has not yet been released, but given there's more than 150 restaurants competing, you can expect three lunch and dinner seatings of crazy creative bacon dishes.

Past items have ranged from chicken-fried bacon (pictured) to bacon-wrapped loin of rabbit to bacon Krispy treats.

Bacon Krispy Treats!
There’s also been bacon pho and bacon kimchi for those whose tastes lean eastward. There’ve been whiskey bacon pops and tequila bacon tacos for those who like to drink their food. And for dessert? Bacon chocolate chip cookies, of course.
Besides awards for “Most Creative Use of Bacon” and “Best Front of House Presentation,” they’re also doling out awards for “Best Bacon Cocktail,” with previous drinks including bacon chocolate martinis and whiskey glasses lined with bacon salt.
If that’s not enough, there’s also an award for “Best Bacon Poem.”
Bacon: the most poetic of the cured meats.
