Locally Grown

Chicago's top Movember events

With Cutler and Briggs out, there's no calling your Movember progress a pre-playoff beard.
But with the annual mustache-growing month for charity as popular as ever, go ahead and grow it out for a good cause. Because before you know it, our Pro Bowlers will be back on the field.
Along the way, hit up these top Movember events in Chicago:

Drink It: The Mo Crawl at Navy Pier
Goose Island is uncorking a different rare beer every 30 minutes as you walk (with drink in hand) between seven locations along Navy Pier. Sip mustache-worthy craft beers including Bourbon County Brand Stout and Night Stalker Imperial Stout in restaurants, ice cream shops, and boat offices as you sing karaoke, play beer pong, and dominate casino games along the way. Warning: You might want to take that $2 Ferris wheel ride before you start drinking.
Sat Nov 9 9p-2a. Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave., River East. $29 here.
Race It: The Mo Run 5K in Lincoln Park
Free mustache trims from local barbers will get you looking sharp for the Mo Run 5K along the lakefront in Lincoln Park. After the race, hop into a free “mustache shuttle” for the quick trip to McGee’s (950 W. Webster St.), where the post-race party kicks off with free tastings of Buffalo Trace Whiskey and more facial hair than a late-‘70s Lynyrd Skynyrd concert.
Sat Nov 9 10a. Starts at Barry Avenue and North Lake Shore Drive, Lincoln Park. $35 here.
Rock It: Chicago Gala Parte at Metro
Let your mustache style dictate your costume choice as you dress to impress (the judges) at Movember’s closing ceremonies. After prizes are awarded for “The Ultimate Mo,” “Lame Mo” (for the follically-challenged), and “Miss Movember,” it’s time to rock out with the mustachioed dudes of Flavor Savors — after which you just might decide to make your ‘stache permanent, no matter what your girlfriend says.
Sat Dec 7 8p-2a. Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Wrigleyville. $10 here.
