This Weekend

  • On the Fringe: Chicago Fringe Festival

Things get weird as experimental theatre takes over storefronts, lofts, and basements around Jefferson Park.

Outside your comfort zone: From a kissing booth to raunchy air guitar to lady arm wrestlers, they've got it all.

Tonight thru Sun. Various locations. $10 per show here.

  • Nothing to Hide: Hideout Block Party & A.V. Fest

The Onion and The Hideout team up for two days of indie bands and cheap drinks at the city’s #1 dive bar.

Big guns: California indie icons Young the Giant close the fest following NYC barroom rockers The Hold Steady.

    Fri 5-10p & Sat 1-10p. The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., Elston Industrial Corridor (773-227-4433). $35-70 here.

Nearby: Exit; Hollywood Grill; Ada St.

  • Getting Crafty: Renegade Craft Fair

Pick up fall fashions at this pop-up indie craft fair with a shoemaking workshop and DJs from Reckless Records.

Feeding tube: Mainline food from Antique Tacos and Glazed & Infused paired with Goose Island drafts.

Sat-Sun 11a-7p. Division Street between Damen and Paulina, Wicker Park. Free.

Nearby: Carriage House; The Anthem; Bangers & Lace

  • Something Fishy: Guinness Oyster Fest

If you didn’t know that Guinness and oysters counterintuitively make an ideal end-of-season pairing, you do now.

From sea to shining sea: Slurp from the east coast (Delaware Blue Points) to the west (Puget Sound).

Sat 11a-10p. Roscoe Street & Damen Avenue, Roscoe Village (773-868-3010). $7 donation.

Nearby: Riverview Tavern; The Village Tap; Kitsch’n
