Somewhere along the way, Taste of Chicago got stale.
But taking cues from her younger festival cousins, the old gal has gone cougar. She's coming back revamped, re-energized, and ready as ever to reclaim her place as the original queen of summer events.
New tents and talents await in Grant Park. Here's where you'll find us camping out for the best calories of the bunch:
With the addition of pop-up restaurants and local food trucks, this year’s Taste adapts to the times with daily rotations of must-eat pop-up offerings including rabbit corn dogs from Hearty and mini lamb burgers from Terzo Piano. For dessert, make your way over to the food truck lot for spicy Jamaican offerings from Jerk and giardiniera fries from The Fat Shallot.
Pop ups: Hearty pop-up Wed-Thu; Terzo Piano pop-up Sun
Food trucks: Jerk truck Wed, Fri, Sun; Fat Shallot truck Wed, Thu, Sun
This year, Taste's musical talent finally matches its culinary talent, with fun. and the sultry sounds of Robin Thicke. But if lusty puffs of '70s soul are too much after your fourth plate of ribs, local indie favorites Canasta and Company of Thieves are a side stage highlight.
Canasta, Company of Thieves: Sat 5:20p, Bud Light Stage
Robin Thicke: Thu 5:30p, Petrillo Music Shell
This year, get up close and personal with top local chefs Rick Bayless and Paul Kahan during live cooking demos. If the lines suck, bypass them for a lesson in affordable French fusion from Nellcote’s Jared Van Camp before mastering the art of the craft cocktail with Blackbird mixologist Lynn House.
Jared Van Camp: Sat 11:30a, Dominicks Cooking Corner
Lynn House: Sun 5:30p, Dominicks Cooking Corner
