Tight bodies in bikinis. Stiff Red Bull cocktails. Nightly fireworks over Lake Michigan.
Make the most of your beachfront clubbing experience with the rundown on Montrose Beach’s Wavefront Music Festival.
Friday: DFA Stage
Stop: Don’t even think about going anywhere else. When former LCD Soundsystem frontman/DFA Records co-founder James Murphy DJs a set the same day as solo sets by former LCD members Nancy Whang and Pat Mahoney, you just get the feeling something amazing is about to happen. Like an LCD reunion. We’re just saying, it could happen.
Sample track: James Murphy, “People”
Saturday: Chicago Heritage Stage
While the infant members of Swedish House Mafia were still soiling their cribs, house music burst out of the Chicago underground in the mid ‘80s thanks to local legends including Frankie Knuckles, Derrick Carter, and Gramaphone Records’ Michael Serafini, all of whom you can catch at Wavefront. See what dance music was like before mouse suits and robot helmets.
Sample track: Derrick Carter, “Where You At”
Sunday: The Wave Stage
With Italian dance impresario Crookers and jungle beatmaster Diplo seasoning a raucous sun-soaked bacchanal, there’s no better place at Wavefront (or anywhere for that matter) than the main stage on Sunday. Stick around for a sweaty powerhouse set from cross-wielding French masters of darkness Justice that will have you sticking to your black leather pants and loving it.
Sample track: Justice, “Civilization”
