Rumblin' and Brewin'

Get in the ring at Haymarket Pub's Beerfly Alleyfight

Full_food

It’s time to introduce beer boxing.

Stay with us, because it gets a bit weird.

We're talking about Haymarket Pub’s Beerfly Alleyfight, where amateur brewer chefs and artists battle for your belly’s blessing. In a boxing ring.

But wait. There's more.

Each home-brewed beer is paired with a home-cooked dish, which is then assigned to an artist who freely interprets the pairings in a makeshift ring located in the pub’s “Drinking & Writing Theater” backroom.

So, for instance, you might see an interpretive jazz puppet dance to go with a wheat beer and cheese curd pairing, or an oddball video skewering the South Beach Diet paired with a shrimp tostada (pictured) and amber ale.

And you get to provide all the hooks and jabs in the form of a raucous audience vote after you’re done sampling the contestant's food, beer, and art.

Winner is, justly, named “Best In Show.”
