Follow our simple three-step formula for live music bliss every day this weekend.
FRIDAY: BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB AT THE VIC
As one of rock’s most vital bands, BRMC (pictured) has been unfurling sinister, haunted American guitar fuzz distortion (coupled with dark, confessionary vocals) for more than a decade. Recently finding melody and harmony, the band is back with a new drummer and a stripped-down sound that brings rock back to its master.
Tonight 8p. The Vic, 3145 N. Sheffield Ave., Lakeview (773-472-0449). $25 here.
SATURDAY: FLYING LOTUS AT METRO
Splicing the DNA strands of hip hop, electronica, video games and jazz to create tracks that are monstrous, synthetic and weirdly engaging, each track from Flying Lotus is a beat-based exploration. Cutting up sounds from villainous cackles to the clank of metal to woozy atmospherics, FlyLo’s only constant is genre-bending evolution.
Sat 10p. Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Wrigleyville (773-549-4140). $62 and up here.
SUNDAY: TURBONEGRO AT DOUBLE DOOR
Turbonegro has turned the kind of cartoonish, over-the-top depravity you’d expect from crude rock 'n roll albums with names like Sexual Harassment into its own personal calling card. Loud, perverted and tons of raunchy fun, the Norwegian band shows how a sleazy mesh of glam rock and punk will never really go out of style.
Sun 8p. Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wicker Park (773-489-3160). $25 here.
