Churchill Downs in Chicago

Our top Kentucky Derby parties

Full_derby

From Jazz Fest to Cinco de Mayo, you thought your weekend was packed already.

Crowbar in some room for these top Kentucky Derby parties. You’ll thank us later.

Party On: Derby Days Street Fest at Joe’s
Joe’s is shutting down the street and bringing the infield to you as the only spot for off-track betting in the city. Catch the Run of the Roses on the Jumbotron in between games of horseshoes and bag toss, with Whole Foods tents and live Southern rock.
Sat noon-8p. Joe’s Bar, 940 W. Weed St., Old Town. (312-337-3486). No cover.

Pig Out: Kentucky Derby Pig Roast at Division Ale House
Sure, the actual race is over by 5:30p. But that doesn’t mean you can’t party until dawn. Ingest all the roast pig and baked beans you can handle on the pub’s sidewalk patio with $5 Maker’s Mark Mint Juleps and a DJ soundtracking the dance party until 3a.
Sat 3p-3a. Division Street Ale House, 1924 W. Division St., Wicker Park. (773-384-6886). No cover.

Do Laps: Derby de Mayo Pub Crawl
Don free jockey hats, sombreros, and mustaches as this Derby/Cinco de Mayo crawl through 10 Lincoln Park pubs. Make a pit stop at each tavern for bourbon and tequila specials before entering the “Battle of the Big Hats” contest after cinco dozen Coronas. Ok, maybe seis dozen.
Sat noon-6p. Starts at Sedgewick’s, 1935 N. Sedgewick St., Old Town. $15-$20 here.

Feast: Derby q at Chicago q
Watch the race on the dining room projector screen as you make endless turns around the buffet station with all-you-can-eat pulled pork sliders, bacon cheddar hushpuppies, and bourbon bread pudding — not to mention mint juleps and live wagering with guests.
Sat 3-6p. Chicago q, 1160 N. Dearborn St., River North. (312-642-1160) $42 here.
