Double Down

Don't forget a side of fries with this month of burgers

Full_burger_month

Vegetarians call it May. We call it National Burger Month.

And we've got four weeks of meaty goodness packed with the newest need-to-eat burgers.

WEEK 1
Word on the street is there’s a burger out there that rivals the addicting masterpiece at Au Cheval. It’s at Trenchermen and it's butter-basted beef served on a potato-dough focaccia bun — a.k.a. the perfect vessel for burger consumption.
2039 W. North Ave., Wicker Park (773-661-1540). $13.

WEEK 2
When the gourmet chef puts down the tweezers for five minutes, it turns out Acadia can cook up a pretty tasty burger. OK, so maybe tasty is a delicious understatement, as this juicy baby comes covered in Mornay and Capretta cheese, then topped with onion-bacon jam and butter pickles.
1639 S. Wabash Ave., South Loop (312-360-9500). $14.

WEEK 3
South Side favorite The Big Baby (pictured) can now be found in the Gold Coast thanks to a nostalgic chef at Little Market Brasserie. The double griddled masterpiece will redefine your cheeseburger experience with the help of grilled onions and homemade pickles.
10 E. Delaware Pl., Gold Coast (312-640-8141). $13.50.

WEEK 4
After weeks of training, you are in prime burger-eating shape to take on the monstrous offerings at Leadbelly. Ten burgers on the menu range from the tame Easy Rider with bacon and Sriracha pickles to the extreme Titanic made with two pounds — yes, two pounds — of beef.
5739 W. Irving Park Rd., Portage Park (773-283-7880). $6.95-26.95.
