Just when you thought Bar DeVille couldn't get any better, they brought in the clowns.
As in comics. As in Parlor Car, the new weekly stand-up comedy showcase at the East Village cocktail haven that somehow just made one of the city's best bars even better.
How'd they do it? By following a standard mixology recipe.
Ingredient 1: A rotating cast of the city's finest up-and-coming stand-up talent, from Never Been to Paris host Sean Flannery to TBS Just For Laughs Fest's Adam Burke.
Ingredient 2: Classic hand-crafted cocktails from a variety of sidecars and smashes to microbrews served in juice glasses at one of Chicago Magazine's Best Cocktail Spots.
Ingredient 3: A dimly lit back room stuffed with antique furniture, lace curtains, and weathered woods reminiscent of a medieval English castle. And a dungeon-style pool room.
Top it off with a heavy pour of absurdist comedy based on local observations, character-driven weirdness, celebrity impersonations, and the occasional musical and/or burlesque act.
Mix all that together and you've got a new recurring event to program into your calendar. Your move, Fridays.
