Summer Suds

The sunny season's best beers

With Memorial Day under our belts, it's time to keep the momentum going.

Because beer just tastes better in the summer, here’s our rundown of the top ales for summer sipping.

Victory Brewing's Summer Love
Find your Summer Love with this Pennsylvania-based ale, combining American and German hops in a clean pilsner base. When Europe gets friendly with America, the result is a lemony beer with flowery hops.
Drink at: The Bad Apple, 4300 N. Lincoln Ave. (773-360-8406)

5 Rabbit's 5 Lizard
Chicago up-and-comer 5 Rabbit does not make beer. They make cerveza. For you Latin lovers tired of Corona and Dos Equis, 5 Lizard is a refreshing wheat beer with a passion fruit flavor, balanced with a hint of spice.
Drink at: Fountainhead, 1970 W. Montrose Ave. (773-697-8204)

Revolution Brewing's Coup D'Etat
It wouldn’t be a summer fling without a little French rebellion. Local powerhouse Revolution Brewing’s Coup D’Etat saison is fermented at high temperatures to create a spicy, earthy aroma backed by a light citrus hop flavor.
Drink at: Revolution Brewpub, 2323 N. Milwaukee Ave. (773-227-2739)

Solemn Oath's Khlöros Belgian White
Solemn Oath is a brand new brewery in the suburbs that’s already churning out a summer classic. Their Belgian white ale Khlöros offers hints of orange and lemon along with Indian green coriander for an herbal finish.

Stiegl’s Grapefruit Radler
Like Eddie Vedder said, this is not for you. It’s for your girlfriend when she opens the fridge and doesn’t want another PBR. Stock up on Stiegl’s lower-alcohol shandy-style beer with a tart aroma made with real grapefruit juice. Her buzz will thank you.
Drink at: Longman & Eagle, 2657 N. Kedzie Ave. (773-276-7110)
