And the Winner Is...

Our nominations for Best Oscar Party are in

Full_oscars

At the end of the day, movies and sports are a lot alike.

They can be comedies, they can be litigious courtroom dramas, but either way, they're always a great excuse for a party.

So go ahead, celebrate the annual Super Bowl of cinema at these Oscar viewing parties this weekend. We won't tell the Celtics, don't worry.

Leading Man: Canary Square
Finally, an excuse to act like The Wolf of Wall Street in public, within reason of course. Whether you decide to channel Jordan Belfort or someone with slightly better self-control (Captain Phillips, perhaps?), you'll have a chance to take home your own "Best Dressed" award (either red carpet classy or film-inspired attire) while snacking on complimentary oysters (plus beef tartare and foie gras torchon) and sipping the signature Oscar cocktail.
Sun 7p. 435 S. Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain (617-524-2500).

Old Hollywood: Back Bay Harry's
Movie tie-ins usually involve some cheap plastic toy that comes with fast food, but not here. Case-in-point: The American Hustle cocktail, made with maestro dobel, sorel, apple cider, honey, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper. Other signature drinks inspired by the Oscar-nominated films — plus red carpet photo ops, voting ballots, and desserts — make this viewing party a hot ticket, just like the show itself.
Sun 6-11p. 142 Berkeley St., Back Bay (617-424-6711). $60 here.

Dark Horse Contender: Brattle Theatre
Whether you've seen all of this year's Best Picture nominees or you just saw Argo on Netflix last week, you can still appreciate a good Oscar pre-party at the Brattle in Harvard Square, particularly when there are complementary cocktails and a silent auction featuring items from the theatre's vintage cinema archives. Brattle members can stay on to watch the ceremony; otherwise, start your own viewing club right next-door over drinks at Alden & Harlow.
Sun 5:30-7:30p. 40 Brattle St., Harvard Square (617-876-6837). $50 here.
