The grocery store. Still a good place to chat up a potential date.
Now it's also a good place to take one out.
If your game is on point under those bright fluorescent lights in aisle nine, it should only get better in the decidedly more intimate space at Commonwealth: the hybrid market/restaurant from former Fenway Park chef Steve "Nookie" Postal, now open in Kendall Square.
They sell gourmet food (more on that later), but that's where the supermarket comparisons stop. No massive aisles stocked with a million different salad dressings. No long lines packed with coupon-toting seniors. More like a massive dining room adorned in brick-and-wood-beam glory and a long copper bar packed with a young professional afterwork crowd.
So what do you get at a market/restaurant? For starters, no E-Z Mac. More like grilled octopus and prosciutto. For entries, no frozen burritos. More like grilled Colorado lamb steak. And for dessert, you're going with white chocolate blondie sundaes paired with a Sweet, Salty & Smoky cocktail (mezcal, sweet vermouth, bitters, kosher salt).
On the way out, if your date starts picking up stuff for breakfast from the adjacent gourmet market, then you're probably on your way to seeing it for yourself.
