In Boston, any day is a good day for eating oysters.
Now how about 30 of them?
A month of oyster madness is the idea behind Legal Sea Foods' annual Oyster Festival, which celebrates Boston's favorite bivalve with rotating special menu items at all their area locations. Plus these four must-go events.
There comes a point on every Sunday when you must, inevitably, leave your couch for a least a few hours. And here's your destination: a little late summer sunshine and $1 oysters on the patio of Legal's Harvard Square outpost at the Charles Hotel.
Sun 2-4p. Legal Sea Foods at Charles Square, 20 University Road, Harvard Square (617-491-9400).
Sip & Shuck
Oysters and wine need different things: the latter needs time to age while the former, well, not exactly. Legal brings the two into balance at this special dinner, where a trio of small plates made with fresh local oysters are paired with years-old wines from far away locales.
Tue Oct 1 6:30p. Legal Sea Foods at Park Square, 26 Park Plaza, Bay Village (617-426-4444). $40 here.
Baby, I Like It Raw
If we had a million dollars, we would invite our bestest pals to this harborside rooftop lounge with pristine city views, then serve up a massive raw bar featuring eight varieties of oysters as well as four passed apps. But we don't (yet), so Legal is doing it for us.
Sun Oct 6 2-4p. Legal Harborside, 270 Northern Avenue, Seaport (617-477-2900). $45 here.
Bivalves and Brewskis
Oysters and beer: two staples of a true New Englander's diet. If you're from out-of-town, this Oyster Fest finale dinner — a four-course affair (think oysters stuffed with mushrooms and shrimp, paired with Schlenkerla Helles Lager) — is an ideal time to earn your regional stripes. If you're a local, well, just do what you do best.
Tue Oct 8 6:30p. Legal Sea Foods, 5 Cambridge Center, Kendall Square (617-864-3400). $55 here.
