Funny People

Eugene Mirman gets by with a little help from his (funny) friends

Everyone has that one funny friend who could be a comedian.
Turns out Eugene Mirman just has a few more than average.

The award-winning comic may be the star of the appropriately-titled Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival next weekend, but there are plenty of laughs to go around.

You've likely seen the Russian-born, Mass.-raised Mirman on stage doing stand-up, on Adult Swim's Delocated!, on HBO's Flight of the Conchords, or maybe you've heard him as the voice of Gene Belcher on FOX's Bob's Burgers. Yes, he's been busy, and along the way he's made quite a few connections.

And like homies tend to do, these guys roll deep. The weekend-long mini tour of Boston and Cambridge kicks off Friday at the Wilbur Theatre, where The Daily Show's Wyatt Cenac, Sterling Archer himself Jon Benjamin, and the legendary Bobcat Goldthwait share the bill with Mirman.

The fest then moves across the river for two shows on Saturday at The Sinclair in Harvard Square, where rising local comic Ben Dryer headlines a showcase of homegrown talent.

And if you can't make either, drag your buddy to Sunday night's closing show at the Sinclair for Wesley Stace's Cabinet of Wonders, a musical and comedic variety show that doesn't care if you show up unshowered and nursing a hangover after a long weekend.

After all, friends don't judge.
