Father of Mine

No new socks, just three Father's Day plans that fit

Whether your dad is a silver fox Roger Sterling, cynical Ed O'Neill, or somewhere in between, we've got a Father's Day plan custom-built for him.

Classic Dad
Maybe he's the type who walks around the house in a pressed shirt and tie. We suggest a morning spent perusing vintage Benzes and Beamers on the lawn of the Larz Anderson Auto Museum for German Car Day, followed by some quality father/son/Johnny Walker time at Sterling's, the recently debuted Mad Men-era haunt in the Financial District. From there, it's just a stone's throw to the North End and Stanza dei Sigari for a night cap of rye and stogies
Sterling's, 60 State St., Financial District (617-531-8200)
Stanza dei Sigari, 292 Hanover St., North End (617-227-0295)

Aging Rocker Dad
Maybe he's the type who thinks he's hip to new music because he just discovered The Black Keys. Let him enjoy that illusion for at least one Sunday. The just-released Louder Than Hell: The Definitive Oral History of Metal ($32 here) is a 756-page essential tome of rock that looks great on the shelf next to his vinyl collection. Pair that gift with a visit to The Sinclair in Harvard Square, then ask him (again) what Aerosmith were really like when they first started over bourbon and burgers — to be followed by an actual real-life rock show featuring Boston post-hardcore band Make Do & Mend.
The Sinclair, 52 Church St., Harvard Square (617-547-5200). Tickets: $12 here.

Simple Dad
Maybe he's the type who hasn't smiled since the 2004 World Series. For some dads, less is more. Luckily, there's a place to post up and mellow out for the day: the Sunday Patio Pig Roast at Tico, where between the Harpoon Beer tastings, Patron tequila giveaways and $20 all-you-can-eat food outside on the patio, you can go long stretches in comfortable silence...just how dad likes it. The gift is easy: bacon in an elegant black box, as in the Oscar Meyer Bacon Gift Box ($22-28 here).
Tico, 222 Berkeley St., Back Bay (617-351-0400)
