Keg Convention

Hyper-Local Brew Fest is a brewer's block party

Imagine you lived in a neighborhood where all your neighbors owned their own breweries. Now imagine they threw a block party.

That's the general idea behind the second annual Hyper-Local Brew Fest, returning to the Center for Arts at the Armory in Somerville this Friday.

Only at this block party, instead of moonbounces and garage sales, you'll find 30+ local brewers presenting a range of boozy beverages from beers to ciders to ales — all made from New England-sourced ingredients, naturally.

Think of it as trick-or-treating with a beer cup. With unlimited 2-oz. pours, you'll want to hit the big houses (Portico, Sam Adams, Harpoon) along with the head-turning newcomers from Urban Farm Fermentory to Down the Road Brewery.

Stop by Friday's home brew showcase and you might even discover the next great brewery right around the corner (next move: make friends).

Plus, this block party subs out your neighbor's overcooked BBQ for pro-served specialties from Q's Nuts, Taza Chocolate, and The Chicken & Rice Guys, alongside smoked meats from Vermont Smoke & Cure.

Because when we drink mead, we like to know where it came from.
