In Boston, the "most exciting two minutes in sports" is normally reserved for Tom Brady's fourth-quarter comebacks.
But since football's still a season away, we're excited for the other most exciting 120 seconds in sports: this Saturday's Kentucky Derby.
Chances are you wear many hats: Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins. Swap those for something more creative to win at Daryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen, where prizes will be awarded to one lucky lady and gentleman who show the most Southern style. If not, just wear your Bruins cap and slam back Bulleit Bourbon Mint Juleps with bourbon chicken wings.
Sat 2-6p. Daryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen, 604 Columbus Ave., South End (617-536-1100).
Everyone knows the first Saturday in May is reserved for the Kentucky Derby, but when Cinco de Mayo is so close, it's okay to cheat a little. For the best of both, check out The Place, where your ticket to Saturday's Derby party (complete with drink and food specials) also doubles as access to the Cinco De Mayo party at nearby Kitty O'Shea's the same day.
Sat 2-9p. The Place, 2 Broad St., Faneuil Hall (617-523-2081). $10 here.
There's not much Irish about the Derby, which is a shame because they really know how to throw a party (see: whiskey). New-ish Financial District pub Barney Fanning's should help you get in the spirit with $3 Mint Juleps, a free food buffet, best hat contest, and a raffle for two Red Sox tickets, with all proceeds going towards victims of the Marathon attacks.
Sat noon-1a. Barney Fanning's, 99 Broad St., Financial District (617-357-8287). $10 here.
